One of fashion’s biggest stories for Fall 2017 has been the meteoric rise in popularity of an old-school closet staple; the blazer. But this is a newly reimagined version of our trusty blazer, with boxy shoulders (yes, those shoulder pads are in the jacket on purpose!), and a long, oversized fit. This is a borrowed-from-the-boys look and it is unbelievably flattering on all body types. There is no age limit to wear this trend (I’m looking at you crop tops) and there are many options for color and fabric. Let’s take a closer look at this trend in action:
Checked Blazer with Jeans
The checked blazer has been popping up on fashion girls everywhere and with good reason. The checked pattern is a classic that looks unfussy and the boxy shoulder and long length give it a modern feel for 2017. I love this style paired with a classic cap toe shoe to contrast the masculine blazer style with a feminine footwear choice. I paired it with a black cami, but I also love this blazer style paired with a white graphic tee and jeans.
Classic Black Blazer
You can’t go wrong with a long, structured black blazer, as it instantly adds polish to any outfit. The structured shoulders create a nice line to narrow the waist and the long length covers any areas on your hips or behind that you may want to camouflage. I decided to contrast the masculine aspect of the blazer with super feminine pieces; glittery pink heels and a pink lace-trimmed cami. I also You can play with the different combinations of shoes and camis with this blazer because the options are endless!
Blazer with Dress
I love the unexpected combination of a blazer with a dress or skirt. This body-con dress is the perfect layering piece for a blazer topper. A classic pencil skirt also looks great with a blazer for a work-appropriate look, but you can also dress up a playful tulle skirt or an embellished mini skirt with a blazer. Adding a blazer is a great way to transition your summer dresses into fall by pairing them with tights and boots.
I have put together a collection of my favorite blazers for you to shop. I have included checked blazers and black blazers along with velvet blazers, which are on my wish list! They look so luxe and combine my two favorite fall trends into one flattering, fantastic piece of clothing!
